Paul Zimmerman | CEO
Paul has more than 25 years in global business leadership experience in telecommunications, computing and consumer electronics with Cisco Systems, Samsung and Hewlett-Packard. Based out of headquarters in Singapore, Mr. Zimmerman was responsible for Cisco Systems' mobile wireless business across the Asia-Pacific region and was a founding Managing Director of the Softbank Asia Infrastructure Fund – a $2B private equity fund founded with Cisco as its Limited Partner and investing in the technology, media and telecom sectors. Prior to Cisco, Mr. Zimmerman led Samsung's international telecom infrastructure expansion into Eastern Europe, Latin America and South East Asia. Paul had joined the Samsung Group as a founding member of the, now, renowned Global Strategist Group. Reporting directly to the Chairman’s Office, he led internal strategy teams on the highest Group priorities including global branding, digital media convergence, consumer electronics value innovation and M&A initiatives. Most recently, Mr. Zimmerman served as Chairman and CEO of Angstrom Power and led the company through the challenging fuel cell sector with global partnerships and strategic licensing initiatives culminating in the successful sale of the company to BIC, Inc. Paul holds a B.A.Sc. (Engineering Science) from the University of Toronto and an MBA from the International Institute of Management Development (IMD) in Switzerland.
Steve Williams | Founder & CTO
Steve has been designing telecommunications infrastructure for the past 24 years, 22 of that in the wireless telecommunications industry. At TELOS Technologies Steve was responsible for the architecture of the Sonata Mobile Switching Center. This innovative MSC supported GSM and CDMA standards and was the first commercially deployed all-IP MSC that fully separated the control and media planes. It was successfully deployed with over 100 network operators in more than 25 different countries on all six inhabited continents. The TELOS deployment in the Tonga Islands won the 2003 3G GSM award for Best Infrastructure or Network Solution Product. When TELOS Technologies was purchased by UTStarcom in 2004, Steve assumed design responsibility for the MovingMedia 2000 product. This product was successfully deployed to Reliance InfoComm in India to support over 3000 remote villages. Steve founded Aegis Mobility in 2006 with the goal of bringing Contextual Services to the entire mobile-subscriber base, the first such service being a network-hosted solution to Distracted Driving. Steve obtained his BSc (with honours) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Loughborough University in the UK. He is a member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology and is registered as a Chartered Engineer with the Engineering Council, UK.
Brian Simmers | CFO & COO
Brian brings more 13 years' experience in the telecommunications and technology sectors with Rogers Communications, Cityfone Telecommunications and Plus International. He was Director Operations for the Cityfone division of Rogers and oversaw its day-to-day operations. Prior to Rogers, Brian was the CFO & GM of Cityfone and helped grow the company’s subscribers and revenue by 400%. In 2010 he oversaw the very successful exit of this MVNO reseller business to Rogers. At Plus he led the reverse takeover process and helped take this software developer public to facilitate a North American expansion plan. Mr. Simmers articled with KPMG LLP and is professionally qualified as a Chartered Accountant in Canada and as a Certified Public Accountant in the United States.
Matt Howard | CMO
Matt joined Aegis in November, 2012 through the acquisition of ZoomSafer. Matt serves as Chief Marketing Officer and leads go-to-market strategy, marketing communication and automation, product marketing and marketing to enterprise accounts. An experienced and successful software entrepreneur, Matt Howard co-founded ZoomSafer in September 2008 and developed the company into the leading distracted driving platform utilizing On-Board Diagnostics devices and telematics systems integration. These strengths served as the perfect complements to the Aegis strengths of software-only and network integrated solutions. Prior to ZoomSafer, Matt co-founded SMBLive in 2005, an innovative provider of online marketing software for small business owners. SMBLive was acquired by Reach Local (NASD:RLOC) in Feburary 2010. Matt previously served as Vice President of Business Development at Groove Networks (acquired by Microsoft), and as Vice President of Marketing & Business Development at USinternetworking (acquired by AT&T). Matt has a certificate in Innovation Management from the University of Maryland’s Smith School of Business, a Masters in Telecommunications Administration from George Mason University and a Bachelor’s in Political Communications from The George Washington University. Olen Vanderleeden | VP, Sales & BD
Olen is VP, Sales and Business Development at Aegis and leads the team responsible for strategic channel and account relationships. Mr. Vanderleeden has over 17 years of sales, strategic business development, product management and research experience in high technology markets. Previously, Olen was Director of Business Development with Energizer where he led the pursuit of strategic new initiatives worldwide related to portable power for mobile devices. Mr.Vanderleeden also led strategic business development programs with Research in Motion (RIM) related to next-generation handset applications and has built extensive relationships with the world’s leading companies in the mobile device ecosystem. Prior to RIM, Olen led business development for Angstrom Power for 6 years and built strategic relationships with all major mobile device companies worldwide. Olen has a very strong technology background including almost 9 years with Ballard Power as a research manager. Mr. Vanderleeden holds a B.Eng., Mechanical Engineering from the University of Victoria and an MBA from Simon Fraser University.
